This page has been put in place to help anyone looking for details of the Wolverhampton Municipal Grammar School Old Pupils Association.

The Association, formed in 1991, is an organisation dedicated to keeping the name of the old school alive.

The Association produces two Newsletters each year, these are printed in the Spring and the Autumn. The Newsletters contain interesting articles and features which may evoke good memories from your days at the school.

The Association holds Coffee Mornings at The Goldthorn Hotel on the Penn Road, Wolverhampton on the first Monday in every month at 10.30 am.

The Old Pupils Association held a very enjoyable Christmas meal at the Mercure hotel on 26th November 2016. (See Latest News - below)

The open day at the School Building on April 8th went well and was attended by around 80 former pupils.

The most recent event for the OPA was the 2017 AGM, followed by lunch, which took place on Sunday 14 May 2017 at the Mercure Goldthorn Hotel, Penn Road, Wolverhampton.

The OPA is always delighted to welcome new members. If you were a pupil at the school, why not join us?

The Membership Fee for the Association is £8 per year, or £12 per year for married couples who both attended the school, payable on January 1st. Following the initial payment ( usually cash or cheque ), a Standing Order system is operated. Details of this would be sent out to you when necessary.

For further information, please contact Membership Secretary, Neville Payne, , tel: 01902 757813 or Treasurer, Roger Wright, or to join just fill in an Application form to join the WMGS Old Pupils Association

The OPA are always on the lookout for short articles for the Newletter, relating to school, and request that ex pupils put pen to paper. If you would like to submit an article for the Newsletter, please email it to Jan Harrison, ()

The old school is now known as the Newhampton Arts Centre and various events (including discos and Burlesque shows!) take place there throughout the year. Click here to see the current list of events

The 2017 AGM and Get Together lunch took place on Sunday May 14th at Mercure Goldthorn Hotel. Deryk Vernon stepped down as Chairman and the new chairman is Mac McCurry. (

The Association had a stall at the Penn History Fair, held on 9th and 10th June 2017 at the United Reformed Church, Penn Road, Wolverhampton. There were various local history groups there too, it was a very interesting event.

Following the cut of funding last year, a bunch of people who use and appreciate the Newhampton Arts Centre have got themselves together to form an Ideas and Action group, with the aim of offering ongoing practical help. They call themselves the NACtivists.

The following link leads to a newsletter from them to update you about what they've been doing. NAC Newsletter

Bob Tame (WMGS 1959 to 1964) maintains this page in his personal webspace on behalf of the OPA.

I have a lot more information on the Muni, particulary from my own era on my own 'Muni' web site. Click here to find it

Although it has no connection with the OPA, there is also a facebook group for the WMGS at Facebook. You will not be able to see it unless you log into facebook first. As it is a closed group you have to ask to join and will only be allowed to do so if there is a visible connection between you and the school

Through the OPA, individual year groups have also had re-unions. The 1949, 1955, 1957 and 1959 intakes are four year groups that have met up again.

One of the recent reunions took place at the luncheon after the AGM.

The OPA has access to a large collection of Memorabilia and there have been occasional 'Memorabilia Days' which are sometimes held in the old School Building on Newhampton Road.
